Job Description:  

To provide leadership in the development of effective and novel approaches to safety engineering and management that increases the value of services, particularly in the nuclear market.

To deliver leading-edge safety solutions to clients in the nuclear industry.

To provide sales support to Business Managers in the winning of safety-related projects within those industries.

Providing nuclear knowledge and expertise for sales and project contexts.

To provide peer review of the work of other safety engineers’ work.

The role requires flexibility in applying the safety-related skills to a variety of industry sectors although the prime aim will be to assist in developing its offering within the nuclear market.

The role will cover all aspects of the safety life-cycle, and, subject to competency and experience (less experience would indicate less coverage or less autonomy), could include any or all of the following:
Writing safety plans.

Chairing and minuting HAZOPs.

Developing safety targets and apportioning those targets across a system.

Developing hazard logs.

Identifying and interpreting SILs.

Developing and authoring safety requirements.

Performing causal and consequence analysis with, for example FTA, FMEA, event tree analysis, etc.

Constructing innovative and compelling safety arguments.

Authoring safety cases.

Working on independent safety assessment assignments.

Developing and presenting training material on safety-related topics.

Being an active member of the safety community, sharing best-practice and contributing to its’ capabilities in this area.

The following duties and responsibilities could also apply:

Acting as an advocate for the employer within the national and international safety communities, by speaking at conferences, attending standards committees, etc.

Setting technical strategy for large and complex sales proposals and/or projects.

Providing training and mentoring to less experienced staff.

Setting direction for the company’s safety offering consistent with that of the overall engineering strategy.
