Principal Consultancy Engineer/ Senior Consultancy Engineer required to be based in Stockton or Warrington.

Reports to: Business Manager

Job Purpose:

Provision of consultancy services, as required to internal and external clients to achieve delivery of a project to quality, time and budget


Accountabilities:

• Develop commercial proposals in conjunction with consultant to meet client needs

• Manage own work and work of junior staff on projects to ensure execution of project to quality, time and budget

• Manage own work load to maximise utilisation

• Prepare and manage, in conjunction with business manager, personal development plan

Skills, Knowledge and Special Attributes Needed for this Position:

Essential:

• Good, relevant technical first degree and post graduate qualifications, or equivalent through experience

• Excellent report writing skills

• Good problem solving skills

• Commercially aware

• Good presentation skills

• Capable of working as part of an interdependent team

• Up to date technical knowledge in specialist area

Other Matters:

Able to travel between Warrington, Stockton and Portsmouth offices as required. May be required to travel and stay away from home for limited periods (days / weeks)

Range and Scope of Activities:

• Preparation of commercial proposals to meet clients’ needs

• Project management of projects up to £50,000; more typically £5,000-25,000

• Provision of training to clients

• Working within the consultancy services QA procedures

Nature of Problems and Solving them:

• Delivery of leading edge technical solutions to clients – under guidance of consultant using skill, experience and judgement to determine correct approach and techniques required to solve clients problems

• Works to tight deadlines

Level of Discretion:

• Manages and delivers projects to time / cost / quality

• Plans and prioritises own work and the work of more junior colleagues

• Checks work of other consultants and engineers

• Works within commercial procedures at all times

• Uses own training, skills and judgement to deliver the best practice solution to the client

Impact:

The job holder ensures that projects are delivered to 30-40% margin and that personal utilisation is above 80%. Failure to achieve these targets will have an adverse impact on the required p&l for the business.

Communication and contacts:

Key contacts are colleagues, clients (including internal clients) and regulators.

Communication is by all normal media and includes assimilation of complex technical information and communicating complex technical information to a wide range of audiences. Some of the technical information dealt with is commercially sensitive.
