Strategically located midway between Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, the Khalifa Port & Industrial Zone (KPIZ) is a mega-scale, USD 7 billion project, which is underpinning Abu Dhabi's plan todiversify its economy through the development of new industries.
The KPIZ development covers an area of 60km2 and consists of a manmade port island located 4.6km offshore, which is linked via causeways and bridges to an onshore port and a mega-scale industrial zone.
The project which is scheduled for completion in late 2012.

POSITION DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The review of Design Consultants and Main contractors design and drawing submission packages within the IZ Team in terms of technical compliance for mechanical engineering elements including ensuring that the submitted design takes into account safety during construction and operation.
Scope includes:-
Miscellaneous mechanical plant & equipment for utility structures such as pumping stations, sub-stations, storage tanks including gantry cranes, penstocks, gate valves, screens etc.
Mechanical building services for utility buildings. Review vendor mechanical submittals for pumps, valves, piping systems, heavy lifting/moving equipment, permanent cranes and bulk handling equipment.
Review Design Consultant mechanical calculations, drawings and specifications for piping systems, pumping plant etc in terms of sizes, layout and ensuring that future operations and maintenance has been considered.
Dealing with Utility Companies, Authorities and understanding local standards and requirements relating to mechanical installations, and typical details.
Review submissions for design & construction of mechanical systems related to industrial wastewater collection and treatment facilities, seawater cooling systems, irrigation systems, pumping plant and pumping stations.
Ensure that all submissions adequately cover the future operations and maintenance of all mechanical plant and equipment in such facilities as the wastewater collection systems/treatment works and seawater cooling/process systems.
Ensure that the Design Consultants produce a Reference Design based on all relevant and appropriate Specifications, Standards and Practices.
Supply Design Consultants with interface and supporting information to complete their design work.
Monitor progress of Design Consultants and Contractors deliverables packages including design calculations, drawings specifications etc.
Ensure that the Design Consultant undertakes the review and acceptance of Contractor shop drawings and materials submittals.
Liaise with other related disciplines and co-ordinate work with them.
Prepare design programmes and assist in preparation of design budgets.
Review design work or studies being carried out by others.
Assist in managing consents and approvals.
Monitor and report progress.
Reports to the Project Engineer-Industrial Zone.
Provide support to the Construction Department and Field Engineering to resolve Contractor Technical Queries and resultant field changes.
POSITION SKILLS:
Fully knowledgeable about international codes, standards and recommended practices to be applied for construction projects during FEED & EPC phase of execution.
Able to effectively interface with and manage engineering consultants.
OTHER REMARKS/QUALIFICATIONS:
B.S. or equivalent degree in the relevant Engineering discipline from an accredited university.
Relevant experience in major projects in the infrastructure or energy industry.
Experience in review of design and engineering documents.
Experience in similar position with the PMC's organization preferred.
Experience in sizing mechanical plant & equipment.
Experience of piping system analysis and design.
Sufficient knowledge in computer applications relating to wastewater/potable/irrigation water system design, piping and transfer pumping stations, PC literacy and applications including CAD.
Relevant experience in major projects in the infrastructure or energy industry.
Experience in review of design and engineering documents.
Traffic Engineering related Master is a plus.
Experience in the development and application of LOS analysis, Signaling, TIS, micro-simulation and transportation modeling, applying international and/or UAE best practice.
Experience in successfully working on complex transportation planning studies, traffic signaling, traffic road signs and markings as part of a wider team.
Experience of TIS, Signaling drawings, traffic calculations specifications.
